Post Gionee ELIFE S5.5 is World's Thinnest Octa-core Android Smartphone

Since last year, Gionee has been bringing its ELIFE-branded Android smartphones to the country. The first model of the series that hit our news section was the ELIFE E3, a quad-core smartphone with a 4.7-inch display. A couple of months after, Gionee introduced the ELIFE E6, another quad-core handset, but with a larger 5-inch touchscreen. Eventually, the E6 was followed by the ELIFE E7, which boasts a 5.5-inch display and is powered by a Snapdragon 800, the same chip that beats within the like of the Google Nexus 5 by LG, LG G2, LG G Flex, Nokia Lumia 1520, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and the Sony Xperia Z1. Apparently, the E7 is not yet available locally.

While some of us are still waiting for the E7's arrival, it appears that there is another ELIFE model which Gionee fans should look forward to in the coming months. Announced last month, the ELIFE S5.5 is, not only the fastest smartphone in Gionee's portfolio, but also the slimmest in the world with a 5.5mm waistline, toppling the 5.7mm-thick Vivo Xplay 3S. Within its slim confines, the S5.5 is powered by a MediaTek MT6592 octa-core chip clocked at 1.7GHz with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. On the front, the phone flaunts a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The S5.5 comes with a 13-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Bundled with a 2300mAh battery, the ELIFE S5.5 supports 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi. At the time of the announcement, the ELIFE S5.5 runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) OS, but we're looking forward to seeing it sweetened with Android 4.4 (KitKat)

The ELIFE S5.5 is anticipated to hit India on March 30 for INR 24,000 (approximately PhP 17,500). If the S5.5 would be available in local stores soon, it would compete with the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2, Diamond X1, and the ThL T100 Monkey King II.
